What excites (excited) you the most about moving forward as a teacher?   I think what excites me most about moving forward as a teacher is improving my craft, and being able to connect with more and more students. I think I really took for granted how much my teachers supported me and helped me grow as an individual. It wasn't until I found myself in their shoes that I realize " oh so that is why they did this" or " this is how they felt when I did that". I am a perfectionist by nature. I make Cosplays as a hobby and always find myself trying to get better and better. This can be a double edged sword because sometimes I can be too critical of myself and therefore have a hard time accepting constructive criticism. After my first year, I really started to work on this perfectionist nature of mine. It's ok to make mistakes; It's actually a pretty normal thing that everyone does. This is what I look forward to most as a teacher; continuing to stumble and f...
After reviewing the ISTE standards for educators, although I feel there are many areas that I could improve upon, I think the one area that I need to work on the most is the 2.6 Facilitator. My education was during the beginning of the technological revolution. I started out with paper and pencil, but quickly technology became more and more prevalent in my life both inside and outside of school. This was actually a blessing because I know how to learn/ function with or without technology. Naturally, I know what is appropriate technological use and what is not. However, when I first started teaching, I didn't realize that my students are not in the same position as me. Whereas I learned with out technology first, students today are know as the " iPad" generation. Literally from the moment they were born they had access to computers, smart phones/ devices, basically a whole plethora of technology that I could not have even imagined would exist when I was their age. This mi...

" You have been assigned to a school in a neighborhood with a population made up primarily of the children of immigrant parents. Develop a plan to improve communication with parents who do not speak English fluently.  List at least three ideas you will implement and why." As an Multilanguage Learner teacher, I frequently am in this situation, but I definitely feel like there are areas that I can improve upon. First, I would make sure to establish a good relationship with the parent liaison/ translators in my school. This would ensure that any communication that I am sending home will be understandable to the parents. I do not want to rely solely on the student to act as translators for their parents because 1. That is not fair to the student and 2. The student may withhold important information either intentionally or unintentionally. Furthermore, I will make sure to utilize technology such as TalkingPoints to communicate because these resources have translators built in. Ov...

First off I what to say I love history, I am even Co-teaching USVA for the second time this year! Because of this, this article was mostly a bit of a review for me, but it did go into more details about somethings that I never thought of before. I already knew that in the beginning Education was very much based in the dominant religion of the time( Christianity) and was mostly for wealthy, white males who would eventually go on to obtain major positions in the society. This left little room for women, Native Americans, or people or color to grow and develop. I would even argue that despite major changes, this still tends to be the case today. It almost instills in students that unless you are a white male with money, you are destined to a life a of mediocrity. It's not that they are necessarily being told that, but it is simply years and years of this belief that has just become a habit for our students. For example, I work mostly with multi-language learners and a vast majority of...
